I kissed a grillHartsford, MD – It seems to be a prevailing trend in the United States: popular media outlets present teenagers with a new fad, and teens follow suit like a flock of sheep. Unfortunately, a young girl in Maryland lies in Hartsford Regional Hospital, suffering from burns over half of her body because of her choice to follow the fashion presented to her on the radio.

I listen to streaming audio on my phone as I walk to school,” said Emily Wethsnick, a Student at Hartsford High School, “that's when I heard a really cool song that I remember most of my friends singing while I was at school.” The tune that Emily heard was a popular song called, “I kissed a girl” by Kate Perry. “I wasn't quite sure why Kate was singing what she was, but it was on radio so I thought it must have been a good thing!”

Because of a hearing impediment, things went horribly wrong. Emily misheard the pop singer's lyrics, and mistakenly thought that she was singing “I kissed a grill, and I liked it!”

Kissing a grill didn't seem like a pleasurable experience to me, but I couldn't be that bad if she was singing about it,” said Emily as she pondered the words of the song. She then proceeded to ignite her father's grill. “It was nice at first, but as soon as I lost consciousness all I could remember were lots of men around me carrying me to the ambulance.”

Emily's scars are not just physical, her love for music has been scorched with the feeling of betrayal. “How can I trust artists who promote things like this,” explained Emily as tears began to soak through her bandages, “I just wanted see what all the fuss was about.” When told that she had misheard the lyrics, which were "I kissed a girl, and I liked it," she stated “That's gross... why would anyone want to do that!?”

Emily's family has not commented on whether they will seek legal action. Emily, on the other hand, says that she will seek alternative means of fun in the future.
